Immigration
Immigration leaders at APNC have worked on strategy meetings for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, organized hundreds of community leaders to participate in marches, have pressured local congressman Emanuel in a town hall meeting last year and are continuing to fight for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
The immigration team at APNC works on various issues that the community faces from refugee issues, citizenship delays and immigrant rights. Last year, 100 refugees took part in the meeting with Congressmen Emanuel and Gutierrez to address the funding formula that is short-changing many refugee agencies with a lack of funding to provide crucial social services such as mental health counseling, job training, and more. World Relief and APNC will continue to put pressure on elected officials to address this important issue and hold them accountable to find a funding formula solution.
Leaders are also having on going Know Your Rights trainings at their local parishes. These trainings consist of educating the immigrant community on their rights when faced with Immigration Custom Enforcement Agents. They also incorporate trainings on Social Security No-Match letters and are working to develop community strategies to address these issues.
