IN THE NEWS: APNC Wins Annual Community Organizing Award

On Wednesday May 27th, the Albany Park Neighborhood Council (APNC) was awarded with the 2009 Community Organizing Award.  The award was presented by The Chicago Community Trust, Wieboldt Foundation, and Woods Fund of Chicago in recognition of APNC’s work toward social, economic, and racial justice through its campaigns which are focused on increasing immigrant rights, preserving and creating affordable housing, improving the quality of education, and increasing access to affordable health care.

In addition to this honor, the Voices of Youth in Chicago Education (VOYCE) collaborative, of which APNC is a founding member, was awarded The Chicago Community Trust Collaboration Award.  Over the past two years of its existence, VOYCE has completed a peer-to-peer research project regarding the issue of the Chicago high school drop-out rate and has offered solutions to the problem, which won the support of former Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO Arne Duncan last year.

These awards highlight the work and effort that APNC leaders have put into the work each campaign.
